This yoga class offers the time to stretch and feel twice as long. We go through a few rounds of sun salutations to start with, followed by a sequence of asanas and finishing with a guided relaxation. This class gives particular emphasis to body alignment, principles of breath, and provides modifications for greater accessibility.

Mindfulness at the Library

 DO YOU HAVE A MIND FULL OF noisy THOUGHTS? 

We can react to thoughts; or alternatively – and this is what we do in our mindfulness practice – we can simply notice them, without judgement. Mindfulness is recognising feelings without becoming caught up in them, living more in the moment (and less in the past and future), a way to cultivate happiness that’s suitable for all. 

During our sessions we’ll explore various mindfulness techniques. 

These techniques help us practice purposefully paying attention in the present moment, whilst bringing a non-judgemental, compassionate awareness to the nature of things. We will practice directing our attention inwards, and making discoveries about what sensations we’re feeling, and what thoughts and emotions we’re having. When distractions occur, we just let them go.

Yoga Beginners course

DURATION:   8 weeks

LOCATION:    Scotland All Strong; 3rd Fl, Drummond House, 6 Scott St, Perth PH1 5EJ

DAY & TIME:  Wednesdays, 7.00pm – 8.00pm

The price includes equipment (although owning your own yoga mat is advised to encourage home practice) and any course handouts.

The main goal of the course is to leave you able to lead your own practice at the end of the session 8. During the course we will cover basics of the yoga philosophy, types of yoga, how to warm up the body and release tension from the joints, some key postures from each of the main āsana groups including standing poses, forward & back bends, twists, and simple inversions, focusing on alignment and benefits. We’ll cover the use of yoga props and how to link the breath with movements. We will explore the basics of ‘flow’, using Sun Salutations for that purpose. Well look in-depth at some breathing techniques and explore how you can use them to energise or to relax. The course includes one ashtanga style class, one hatha style class and one yoga nidra class. 

In this course, the classes are kept small – there are only 7 spaces – so you that will receive lots of personal attention. We will work at a pace that ensures you will develop a firm understanding of all aspects of the practice. This creates a strong and safe foundation from which to confidently try different styles of yoga in any open-level class.

Mobility Flow

This yoga class offers the the opportunity to move in diverse ways and explore the range of motion. We target the common problem areas, like: stiff shoulders and neck, bad back,tight hips, knees and ankles. Open to all levels as appropriate variations are provided. This class emphasis is on alignment, breath and mindful movement. Fantastic for maintaining good sport performance, improving the posture as well as a brilliant break from the desk. 

Power yoga

This is a Yoga Ashtanga based practice which provides a great full body workout. You will use your own bodyweight to tone and strengthen. This yoga practice is well-suited for a diverse range of people, and is a really good place for beginners to start their yoga practice journey. This is a high intensity yoga class. Variations will be provided to accommodate all levels, but do expect to work hard.

Yoga Tabata - Core

DAY & TIME:  Mondays, 6:00pm-6:45pm

This is a high intensity yoga class, targeting the core muscles. You will tone up and burn calories. Open to all levels, however be prepared to sweat and work hard.

This yoga class aims to dissolve tension created when cycling. We are not aiming at ‘wrapping our feet around our shoulders’ but rather regaining the ‘normal’ range of motion in the joints, in order to ride comfortably and efficiently. Areas of the main focus include: neck, shoulders, back, pelvis and legs (taking the joints through the full range motion). The intention of this class is to promote better performance when cycling and enhanced overall well-being. Suitable for all levels.

Yoga for jiu - jitsu

DURATION: 20-30mins    LOCATION: Fair City Jiu Jitsu

This yoga class offers the the opportunity to move in diverse ways and explore the range of motion. We target the common problem areas for this sport, but put the emphasis on the hips, shoulders and overall flexibility.

Open to the members of the FAIR CITY JIU JITSU CLUB only. 

Yoga for climbers

This yoga class aims to dissolve tension created when climbing, promote length, and develop overall body strength. The aim is to minimise any muscular imbalances that can commonly occur in a climber’s body. The intention of the asanas (yoga poses) introduced during this class is not necessarily to directly promote climbing strength but to optimise the body for climbing. Areas of main interest: neck, back, arms, shoulders, palms, fingers, feet. Class also recommended to those that are desk-bound (shoulder opening).

Suitable for all levels.
